Rogues, Mages, Druids and Clerics use the alchemy skill to create magical potions. In order to create a potion, one must know the recipe and have the correct reagents as well as a glass bottle. Only true Alchemists, however, can create the ultimate racial potions.

Alchemy is NOT improved by the universally available Master Craftsman feat. Alchemy in excess of 100 can only be achieved through a combination of items.

Obtaining Formulas

Without a formula, you have no idea how to make the potion. Therefore you must find it first. Most players will have to hunt monsters and hope they have it as loot (Monsters who drop spellscrolls also drop alchemy formulas). Alchemists can receive two formulas of their choice based on their level using the Alchemical Research feat. The higher your level the more potions you can choose from. A formula comes in the form of a Sealed Scroll, which one has to identify using the Item Identification skill. Once you identify the formula, you can drag it unto your alchemy tome, adding it to the list of possible potions you can make, unless you already had it.

Creating a Potion

You will first need a mortar and pestle, which is the alchemist's tool. Double click it to see a list of potions you know how to make. Click to button to the right of a specific potion to see what items you need to create it. You will usually need an empty bottle and a few Reagents.

Empty Bottles

They are not easy to get. A person with alchemical knowledge can use sand to create them, but sand can only be mined with 100 Mining. Therefore we have implemented a method to recycle potions: Use the ]pour command in order to pour a potion from its bottle and receive an empty bottle. Potion must be in your backpack.

Potion Kegs

Potion Kegs are useful items created by Tinkers and Woodworkers. A single keg can hold the same amount of liquid as 100 bottles. It holds a potion of one type, weighs less than 100 bottles and only counts as one item in your backpack, against the extra 100 you will have in the form of bottles.
