Blackwatch
Blackwatch
The history of Blackwatch is a tale of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. Its story begins in the year 16668, when the Kingdom of Mercadia, faced with increasing turmoil, made a bold attempt to establish a bulwark against the looming threats in their lands. Blackwatch was initially conceived as a strategic fortress, placed at the edge of a desolate bog, on a rugged coastal region known for its biting winds and snow. The location, despite its harsh climate, held key strategic importance. The thick forests and the labyrinth of caves offered natural protection, while its position on the coast allowed for surveillance and access to maritime routes. However, the foundation of Blackwatch was not without its challenges. Internal political strife within Mercadia hampered its development into a proper outpost. The kingdom's resources were stretched thin and the constant internal power struggles prevented a unified effort to strengthen the fortress. Despite these setbacks, the founders of Blackwatch pressed on, relying on their resourcefulness and determination.
During this period, the region was further destabilized by the aggressive expansion of the Shadowclan Orcs. These formidable foes had swarmed from the depths of Shadowclan Mountain, laying waste to Ameresh and Olverton. This wave of destruction heightened the urgency for a strong fortress to resist the orcish onslaught. The soldiers stationed at Blackwatch, many of whom had fought valiantly at the battle of Mohrladen Hold against the Shadowclan Orcs, found themselves at odds with the chaotic leadership of Mercadia. Dissatisfied and disillusioned, they broke away, declaring themselves as the Northern Resistance. Under this new banner, the fighters of Blackwatch, forged in the fires of adversity, began to fortify their position. Using the natural terrain to their advantage, they adapted to their harsh surroundings. The fortress began to transform into a more permanent encampment, a home for the weary and the determined. Despite the challenges of living in a snow-ridden landscape, the people of Blackwatch showed an incredible ability to endure. Instead of traditional stone buildings, tents and field housing began to dot the encampment. Each structure stood as a testament to the resilience of the Northern Resistance.
Over the years, Blackwatch has continued to stand as a beacon of hope amid the turmoil. Even though it never became the stronghold that Mercadia originally envisioned, Blackwatch embodies the indomitable spirit of its people. Today, it remains a military encampment, a bastion of the Northern Resistance, standing firm against the darkness that once threatened to engulf the region. The brave souls of Blackwatch continue to hold their ground, their swords and magic ready to protect their home from any threat.
