Lectures from Tilverton's Lyceum

Post by Wyrd » Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:06 am

[[OOC: Using this post to keep record of the lectures performed in Fort Risencrantz and in the Esoteric Lyceum, so people who missed them can still have access to the content of the classes and incorporate it in their RP if they so wish. Outside of player characters, it would make sense RPly that NPCs attended the class as well. In case your character couldn't attend this or that class, feel free to RP as if one such NPC relayed the information / knowledge to you. The choice is yours, as always.]]

Public Class on Basic Necromancy.

[01/19/2025 19:24:13] Zomactelonyvarix: Well, where to begin...?
[01/19/2025 19:24:42] Zomactelonyvarix: Before we start with necromancy... let us remember a few basic arcane notions.
[01/19/2025 19:25:12] Zomactelonyvarix: I have a question. Raise a hand if you know the answer.
[01/19/2025 19:25:16] Zomactelonyvarix: What... is a spell?
[01/19/2025 19:25:36] Rudyard Boneart: *raises hand*
[01/19/2025 19:25:45] Zomactelonyvarix: *interlaces their fingers behind their back, looking to Rudy*
[01/19/2025 19:25:51] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods*
[01/19/2025 19:25:52] Zomactelonyvarix: Rudy?
[01/19/2025 19:26:22] Rudyard Boneart: a formula, that includes words, actions or ingridients, that allows to transform the magic energy
[01/19/2025 19:27:16] Zomactelonyvarix: *Zoma's smile widens*
[01/19/2025 19:27:32] Zomactelonyvarix: Very good, Rudy.
[01/19/2025 19:28:35] Zomactelonyvarix: A spell is just that. Manipulation of the magic energies, to create an effect. To alter reality
[01/19/2025 19:28:36] Zomactelonyvarix: itself.
[01/19/2025 19:29:18] Zomactelonyvarix: *taps their chin*
[01/19/2025 19:29:22] Zomactelonyvarix: Magic energy... hmmmm...
[01/19/2025 19:29:29] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks to Larissa then*
[01/19/2025 19:29:44] Zomactelonyvarix: What other names have we for such energies?
[01/19/2025 19:29:56] Zomactelonyvarix: *motions at her, as if expecting an answer*
[01/19/2025 19:31:01] Larissa Aylomein: *tapps a fingertip on her chin*
[01/19/2025 19:31:24] Larissa Aylomein: Mana is the most common one I know.
[01/19/2025 19:31:40] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods once*
[01/19/2025 19:31:53] Zomactelonyvarix: "Mana" is indeed the most popular one. Good answer.
[01/19/2025 19:32:10] Zomactelonyvarix: But there are others.
[01/19/2025 19:32:21] Zomactelonyvarix: Rudy?
[01/19/2025 19:32:30] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances to Rudyard then*
[01/19/2025 19:32:44] Zomactelonyvarix: Do you happen to know another?
[01/19/2025 19:33:17] Rudyard Boneart: *raises hand*
[01/19/2025 19:33:27] Zomactelonyvarix: Yes?
[01/19/2025 19:33:52] Rudyard Boneart: I believe the other name will be "Aether"
[01/19/2025 19:33:58] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods again*
[01/19/2025 19:35:14] Zomactelonyvarix: Aether, mana, spirit, ki, and many, many others...
[01/19/2025 19:35:25] Zomactelonyvarix: The so-called 5th element.
[01/19/2025 19:35:43] Zomactelonyvarix: *pulls the chair back, sitting then*
[01/19/2025 19:36:01] Zomactelonyvarix: Tapping into such mysterious force and reshaping it to create effects.
[01/19/2025 19:36:12] Zomactelonyvarix: That.. is what defines us as wizards.
[01/19/2025 19:36:41] Zomactelonyvarix: For example...
[01/19/2025 19:36:57] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks to the vacant space next to him*
[01/19/2025 19:37:04] a rabbit: a rabbit
[01/19/2025 19:37:17] Zomactelonyvarix: *flicks their wrist, murmuring a few words*
[01/19/2025 19:37:32] Zomactelonyvarix: *they pick the rabbit up, caressing it gently on their lap*
[01/19/2025 19:37:47] Zomactelonyvarix: In your opinions... and I'd like to hear you both...
[01/19/2025 19:37:55] Zomactelonyvarix: Is the rabbit real?
[01/19/2025 19:38:15] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances between them, letting them choose who goes first*
[01/19/2025 19:38:30] Rudyard Boneart: temporarily yes.
[01/19/2025 19:39:48] Larissa Aylomein: For most practical purposes, it is real.
[01/19/2025 19:40:08] Zomactelonyvarix: Oh is it?
[01/19/2025 19:40:17] Zomactelonyvarix: Does it feel pain, the same way we do?
[01/19/2025 19:40:30] Zomactelonyvarix: Does it love, the same way we do?
[01/19/2025 19:40:47] Zomactelonyvarix: If I were to stab it now, would you try to stop me?
[01/19/2025 19:41:04] Rudyard Boneart: *puzzled*
[01/19/2025 19:41:33] Larissa Aylomein: Those questions aren't relevant to what you asked.
[01/19/2025 19:41:50] Zomactelonyvarix: Oh?
[01/19/2025 19:41:58] Zomactelonyvarix: Go on.
[01/19/2025 19:42:03] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods encouraging her*
[01/19/2025 19:42:45] Larissa Aylomein: The creature you've summoned has weight, it has warmth. It takes up space, and moves.
[01/19/2025 19:42:46] Rudyard Boneart: it is semi-real. It does it's function. But it has no mind of it's own.
[01/19/2025 19:43:04] Rudyard Boneart: like, when we summon a horse.
[01/19/2025 19:43:20] Larissa Aylomein: It is as real as a stone. But if you were to ask, "is it a real rabbit?"
[01/19/2025 19:43:30] Larissa Aylomein: That is a different, and deeper question.
[01/19/2025 19:43:47] Zomactelonyvarix: *Zoma's smile widens again*
[01/19/2025 19:44:04] Zomactelonyvarix: *they snap their fingers and the rabbit disappears from their lap*
[01/19/2025 19:44:22] Zomactelonyvarix: Excellent responses.
[01/19/2025 19:44:47] Zomactelonyvarix: And of course, a little provocation on my part. I'd never stab such a cute little creature.
[01/19/2025 19:44:50] Zomactelonyvarix: Real or no.
[01/19/2025 19:45:06] Zomactelonyvarix: But what teacher would I be, if I didn't provoke a little?
[01/19/2025 19:45:14] Zomactelonyvarix: *chuckles quietly*
[01/19/2025 19:45:48] Zomactelonyvarix: This creature - this rabbit made from aether, from mana - it is very real. It exists.
[01/19/2025 19:46:16] Zomactelonyvarix: For a short duration, surely, without a mind of its own, definitely. But it exists.
[01/19/2025 19:46:46] Zomactelonyvarix: Do we abhor it for its impermanent state?
[01/19/2025 19:47:14] Zomactelonyvarix: No, we don't. We understand it is a spell. An effect. And it has its purpose.
[01/19/2025 19:47:48] Zomactelonyvarix: With this introduction made... we will now begin on necromancy.
[01/19/2025 19:47:51] Rudyard Boneart: *summons himself a cooked rabbit and eats it*
[01/19/2025 19:49:13] Zomactelonyvarix: Necromancy also has had many names.
[01/19/2025 19:49:19] Larissa Aylomein: *laughs softly at Rudy's impromptu lunch*
[01/19/2025 19:49:35] Zomactelonyvarix: I prefer the term I coined myself: the deathly arts.
[01/19/2025 19:50:17] Zomactelonyvarix: And more importantly... modern necromancy.
[01/19/2025 19:50:40] Zomactelonyvarix: *they rise again*
[01/19/2025 19:51:42] Zomactelonyvarix: When I summon a golem... or when I animate a corpse...
[01/19/2025 19:52:02] Zomactelonyvarix: What are the forces behind the movements of those puppets?
[01/19/2025 19:52:56] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances between the two of them*
[01/19/2025 19:53:25] Larissa Aylomein: Hm. I'm not familiar with the technique, but I imagine it's similar to the...
[01/19/2025 19:53:36] Larissa Aylomein: ... animating principle behind a summoned creature.
[01/19/2025 19:54:22] Zomactelonyvarix: A clever observation.
[01/19/2025 19:55:19] Zomactelonyvarix: I'd ask Rudy, but... being that he is my most dedicated disciple, I'm afraid he'd have an easy time
[01/19/2025 19:55:19] Zomactelonyvarix: answering this one.
[01/19/2025 19:55:22] Rudyard Boneart: I believe, these creatures maintain a part of their soul.
[01/19/2025 19:55:37] Zomactelonyvarix: I celebrated too soon...
[01/19/2025 19:56:20] Rudyard Boneart: Well... the liches.
[01/19/2025 19:56:33] Rudyard Boneart: they intentionally turn themselves in that form, to continue living.
[01/19/2025 19:56:37] Rudyard Boneart: well ... "living"
[01/19/2025 19:56:44] Rudyard Boneart: which means part of their soul is there.
[01/19/2025 19:56:52] Rudyard Boneart: But... we cannot summon them.
[01/19/2025 19:56:58] Rudyard Boneart: They create themselves
[01/19/2025 19:57:05] Zomactelonyvarix: Liches are something else. And a much more advanced topic than a basic class would warrant.
[01/19/2025 19:57:20] Zomactelonyvarix: I'm right now speaking of things we conjure.
[01/19/2025 19:57:44] Rudyard Boneart: Well, in this case a dead body works as a mindless vessel
[01/19/2025 19:57:53] Rudyard Boneart: in the same manner a summoned animal would
[01/19/2025 19:58:01] Rudyard Boneart: it just looks more... ugly.
[01/19/2025 19:58:08] Zomactelonyvarix: As Larissa stated. Precisely.
[01/19/2025 19:58:26] a dog: a dog
[01/19/2025 19:58:39] Zomactelonyvarix: *pats the dog's head a bit*
[01/19/2025 19:58:49] Rudyard Boneart: *summons a piece of meat under the table*
[01/19/2025 19:59:06] Zomactelonyvarix: *pulls a short knife from their belt and makes a thin cut on a finger*
[01/19/2025 19:59:16] Zomactelonyvarix: *letting a single drop fall*
[01/19/2025 19:59:26] Rudyard Boneart: *puts a piece of meat on the carpet, whlie he does not see*
[01/19/2025 19:59:38] Rudyard Boneart: *watches the dog*
[01/19/2025 19:59:53] Zomactelonyvarix: *they cast a spell as the blood drop falls, and it begins to take form*
[01/19/2025 19:59:56] System: You summon forth your golem.
[01/19/2025 19:59:56] Jeremiah: Jeremiah
[01/19/2025 20:00:12] Larissa Aylomein: Oh! Impressive! *claps briefly*
[01/19/2025 20:00:13] Rudyard Boneart: *looks up*
[01/19/2025 20:00:16] Zomactelonyvarix: *the dog would just remain sitting there, unmoving*
[01/19/2025 20:00:19] Rudyard Boneart: big fella.
[01/19/2025 20:00:33] Zomactelonyvarix: This is a blood golem. I call him Jeremiah.
[01/19/2025 20:00:40] Rudyard Boneart: *dispells the piece of meat with some disappointment in dog's reaction*
[01/19/2025 20:00:57] Rudyard Boneart: *raises hand*
[01/19/2025 20:01:05] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over*
[01/19/2025 20:01:08] Zomactelonyvarix: Yes, Rudy?
[01/19/2025 20:01:35] Rudyard Boneart: why do we give them names, considering they have no soul or mind.
[01/19/2025 20:02:20] Zomactelonyvarix: Why do we give names to anything?
[01/19/2025 20:02:31] Rudyard Boneart: *shrugs*
[01/19/2025 20:02:35] Rudyard Boneart: because we like to... label things?
[01/19/2025 20:02:44] Zomactelonyvarix: An answer as good as any.
[01/19/2025 20:03:32] Zomactelonyvarix: I believe the human mind works with meaning.
[01/19/2025 20:03:43] Zomactelonyvarix: We are unable not to attribute meaning to the reality around us.
[01/19/2025 20:04:02] Zomactelonyvarix: Therefore... labels, names, symbols...
[01/19/2025 20:04:09] Zomactelonyvarix: Jeremiah...
[01/19/2025 20:04:12] Zomactelonyvarix: And Rex...
[01/19/2025 20:04:29] Zomactelonyvarix: A question for you two...
[01/19/2025 20:04:41] Zomactelonyvarix: Based on what we've investigated thus far...
[01/19/2025 20:04:58] Zomactelonyvarix: What is the difference between these two?
[01/19/2025 20:05:05] Zomactelonyvarix: *gestures between the golem and the dog*
[01/19/2025 20:05:08] Zomactelonyvarix: If any.
[01/19/2025 20:05:13] Rudyard Boneart: Jeremiah stinks.
[01/19/2025 20:05:21] Rudyard Boneart: *giggles*
[01/19/2025 20:05:51] Zomactelonyvarix: *sighs*
[01/19/2025 20:05:57] Rudyard Boneart: *makes serious face*
[01/19/2025 20:06:00] Larissa Aylomein: *tilts her head, tracing a meandering shape on the desk with a fingertip*
[01/19/2025 20:06:01] Zomactelonyvarix: Take it seriously, Rudy.
[01/19/2025 20:06:46] Zomactelonyvarix: Well?
[01/19/2025 20:06:47] Larissa Aylomein: There's something in the blood. I'm not sure, but there's definately something to it.
[01/19/2025 20:07:01] Larissa Aylomein: The substrate changes the character of the outcome.
[01/19/2025 20:07:26] Rudyard Boneart: I believe the difference is in material used.
[01/19/2025 20:07:34] Rudyard Boneart: The dog was created purely from Aether.
[01/19/2025 20:07:43] Rudyard Boneart: While the golem is partly constructed from existing flesh.
[01/19/2025 20:07:59] Rudyard Boneart: Which is a more effective formula, which allows to create more powerful creature for same energy cost
[01/19/2025 20:08:06] Zomactelonyvarix: From blood, you mean.
[01/19/2025 20:08:13] Rudyard Boneart: *nods*
[01/19/2025 20:08:30] Rudyard Boneart: I suspect blood has some Aether stored in it.
[01/19/2025 20:08:38] Zomactelonyvarix: You two are the dream students of any teacher.
[01/19/2025 20:08:42] Rudyard Boneart: So when we add our own Aether - in the end, we get a more powerful creation.
[01/19/2025 20:08:46] Zomactelonyvarix: *chuckles quietly*
[01/19/2025 20:09:12] Zomactelonyvarix: *waves both hands at the creatures, making both disappear*
[01/19/2025 20:09:24] Zomactelonyvarix: In a metaphysical sense, they have no difference.
[01/19/2025 20:09:43] Zomactelonyvarix: The dog and the blood golem didn't exist. I made them real through magic. Through Aether.
[01/19/2025 20:10:08] Zomactelonyvarix: Neither of them acted on their own, they remained stationed, waiting for my command.
[01/19/2025 20:11:13] Zomactelonyvarix: If "someone" had laid a piece of meat on the ground, the dog wouldn't even sniff it.
[01/19/2025 20:11:21] Zomactelonyvarix: *says that without ever looking at Rudy*
[01/19/2025 20:11:30] Rudyard Boneart: *gulps*
[01/19/2025 20:11:40] Zomactelonyvarix: Unless I commanded it to.
[01/19/2025 20:12:24] Zomactelonyvarix: In principle, they were one and the same.
[01/19/2025 20:12:30] Zomactelonyvarix: As Larissa pointed out.
[01/19/2025 20:12:41] Zomactelonyvarix: But... with a slight difference, pointed out by Rudy.
[01/19/2025 20:13:07] Zomactelonyvarix: The reagent used. A piece of my own essence, my life fluid, my blood... to infuse my creation
[01/19/2025 20:13:10] Zomactelonyvarix: with my own power.
[01/19/2025 20:14:39] Zomactelonyvarix: That is, in essence, what necromancy is.
[01/19/2025 20:15:18] Zomactelonyvarix: Manipulation of aether, using a quintessential reagent. In this example, it was my blood.
[01/19/2025 20:15:39] Zomactelonyvarix: But to animate an undead, the reagents are... yes... corpses.
[01/19/2025 20:16:06] Zomactelonyvarix: Sometimes bones are enough.
[01/19/2025 20:16:30] Zomactelonyvarix: Now, a question for you both...
[01/19/2025 20:17:22] Zomactelonyvarix: Say I'm walking through a meadow... and I find the remains of a bird...
[01/19/2025 20:17:44] Zomactelonyvarix: And I rearrange the carcass to rise as a skeleton assistant.
[01/19/2025 20:18:09] Zomactelonyvarix: We know this skeleton is very real. We know it is infused with aether.
[01/19/2025 20:18:24] Zomactelonyvarix: And we know the carcass served as a reagent, a conduit, for the effect of the spell.
[01/19/2025 20:18:37] Zomactelonyvarix: I ask you: does this newly risen skeleton... have a soul?
[01/19/2025 20:19:06] Rudyard Boneart: It has not. The soul has left that corpse long ago.
[01/19/2025 20:19:21] Zomactelonyvarix: Hmm.
[01/19/2025 20:19:28] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks to Larissa, for her input*
[01/19/2025 20:19:38] Larissa Aylomein: *purses her lips*
[01/19/2025 20:20:10] Larissa Aylomein: The imprint of your soul is upon it.
[01/19/2025 20:20:28] Larissa Aylomein: But I wouldn't expect it to bear a complete one like a natural creature.
[01/19/2025 20:20:40] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods to them both*
[01/19/2025 20:21:08] Zomactelonyvarix: This, right here, is the pinnacle of modern necromancy.
[01/19/2025 20:21:22] Zomactelonyvarix: We don't need to break the cycle.
[01/19/2025 20:21:47] Zomactelonyvarix: All we need to conduct our practice is aether and will.
[01/19/2025 20:22:19] Zomactelonyvarix: I understand it wasn't always so... which has condemned my generation of necromancers.
[01/19/2025 20:22:43] Zomactelonyvarix: We, the Wyrd Cabal, have been trying to change that... by spreading this knowledge.
[01/19/2025 20:23:09] Zomactelonyvarix: An animate dead is just that: an animation. Nothing more. It will only dance if I tell it to.
[01/19/2025 20:23:38] Zomactelonyvarix: It doesn't have a soul of its own, therefore, it doesn't have a will.
[01/19/2025 20:24:02] Zomactelonyvarix: One of the grave misconceptions regarding necromancy is the belief every undead raised..
[01/19/2025 20:24:15] Zomactelonyvarix: ..was infused with a new soul.
[01/19/2025 20:24:22] Zomactelonyvarix: Or even an old soul.
[01/19/2025 20:24:25] Zomactelonyvarix: *shakes their head*
[01/19/2025 20:24:53] Zomactelonyvarix: Another provocation: who are expert soul callers in our society?
01/19/2025 20:26:24] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances between them, tilting their head*
[01/19/2025 20:26:28] Zomactelonyvarix: Nothing?
[01/19/2025 20:26:37] Rudyard Boneart: the... clerics?
[01/19/2025 20:26:49] Zomactelonyvarix: *Zoma's smile widens once more*
[01/19/2025 20:26:52] Larissa Aylomein: I'm still working on "soul caller", honestly. It's not a term I'd heard before.
[01/19/2025 20:27:03] Zomactelonyvarix: On point, Rudy, as always.
[01/19/2025 20:27:43] Zomactelonyvarix: Clerics, knights, druids... even rangers, in regards to animals...
[01/19/2025 20:28:00] Zomactelonyvarix: Soul calling is divine and primal magic field.
[01/19/2025 20:28:07] Larissa Aylomein: [apologies, I've got to vanish now]
[01/19/2025 20:29:17] Zomactelonyvarix: I guess it's just you and me now, Rudy
[01/19/2025 20:29:21] Rudyard Boneart: anything you wanted to conclude, mentor?
[01/19/2025 20:29:33] Zomactelonyvarix: Yes, I was getting to a point.
[01/19/2025 20:29:42] Rudyard Boneart: I must have scared her off with the correct answers
[01/19/2025 20:30:33] Zomactelonyvarix: Divine and primal magics are the ones able to conduit souls.
[01/19/2025 20:31:04] Zomactelonyvarix: It is peculiar that we're the ones accused of using souls to make a corpse rise and walk again.
[01/19/2025 20:31:09] Zomactelonyvarix: When clerics do it daily.
[01/19/2025 20:31:36] Rudyard Boneart: *chuckles*
[01/19/2025 20:32:22] Zomactelonyvarix: Why is resurrection not considered a breech to the Cycle?
[01/19/2025 20:33:18] Rudyard Boneart: I don't know.
[01/19/2025 20:33:22] Rudyard Boneart: Maybe... politics
[01/19/2025 20:33:34] Zomactelonyvarix: Indeed. I don't know either. It was more of a rethorical question.
[01/19/2025 20:33:51] Zomactelonyvarix: Wizards do not have the tools to control or summon souls.
[01/19/2025 20:33:58] Zomactelonyvarix: It is simply not part of our repertoire.
[01/19/2025 20:34:53] Zomactelonyvarix: Though understandably so... a commoner seeing an old relative rising from the grave would no doubt
[01/19/2025 20:34:56] Zomactelonyvarix: assume as much.
[01/19/2025 20:35:42] Rudyard Boneart: people like when dead get back alive. Intact.
[01/19/2025 20:35:51] Rudyard Boneart: they don't like to see the dead as they are. Rotting.
[01/19/2025 20:36:58] Zomactelonyvarix: Fear of what they know not. Granted, the deeds of older generations of necromancers surely made us
[01/19/2025 20:37:07] Zomactelonyvarix: look bad. By the example I provided.
[01/19/2025 20:37:38] Zomactelonyvarix: But, as demonstrated here, we don't need to go graverobbing.
[01/19/2025 20:37:54] Zomactelonyvarix: We don't even need to use humanoid corpses, matteroffactly.
[01/19/2025 20:38:08] Zomactelonyvarix: I much prefer monsters. Better bone structure.
[01/19/2025 20:39:34] Zomactelonyvarix: So...
[01/19/2025 20:40:45] Zomactelonyvarix: Modern necromancy can move away from the old stereotype.
[01/19/2025 20:40:56] Rudyard Boneart: Under your leadership, it will
[01/19/2025 20:41:06] Zomactelonyvarix: Which I expect of -all- my students.
[01/19/2025 20:41:15] Zomactelonyvarix: *stresses the word "all" looking at Rudy*
[01/19/2025 20:41:52] Zomactelonyvarix: It is our responsability to change the outlook the world has upon our art.
[01/19/2025 20:42:17] Zomactelonyvarix: Only then they will realize the advantages and benefits it can provide to society.
[01/19/2025 20:42:38] Zomactelonyvarix: To summarize this first class.
[01/19/2025 20:42:56] Zomactelonyvarix: We've seen that Aether or Mana is the magic energy which shapes our spells through our will.
[01/19/2025 20:43:12] Zomactelonyvarix: We've seen that same energy is used to control summoned creatures.
[01/19/2025 20:43:38] Zomactelonyvarix: And that a carcass or bone or blood are merely reagents, to empower the spell.
[01/19/2025 20:43:48] Zomactelonyvarix: To give it form.
[01/19/2025 20:44:12] Zomactelonyvarix: The same way a fire elemental is formed from the aether and the inner flame of a Pyromancer.
[01/19/2025 20:44:46] Zomactelonyvarix: We've also seen that arcane magic holds no sway over souls. We cannot control, summon or command
[01/19/2025 20:44:53] Zomactelonyvarix: them. That is the territory of divine or primal magic.
[01/19/2025 20:45:39] Zomactelonyvarix: Lastly, we've seen how modern necromancy differentiates from the old necromancy.
[01/19/2025 20:46:01] Zomactelonyvarix: This concludes our first class.
[01/19/2025 20:46:12] Rudyard Boneart: *nods*
[01/19/2025 20:46:16] Zomactelonyvarix: I had a grand announcement to make.
[01/19/2025 20:46:33] Zomactelonyvarix: Which I suppose will be delivered to your ears only, Rudy.
[01/19/2025 20:46:53] Zomactelonyvarix: It is time to start the 3rd subgroup of the Cabal.
[01/19/2025 20:47:03] Zomactelonyvarix: The Exoteric Academy.
[01/19/2025 20:47:29] Zomactelonyvarix: After this class, I'll make a public announcement.
[01/19/2025 20:47:40] Rudyard Boneart: wish we had more listeners though.
[01/19/2025 20:47:57] Zomactelonyvarix: I want the mage community to have a place to congregate. A place of learning and teaching.
[01/19/2025 20:48:10] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods a bit sadly*
[01/19/2025 20:48:48] Zomactelonyvarix: As did I. But ... Kelt wasn't built overnight.
[01/19/2025 20:48:53] Zomactelonyvarix: As the proverb says
[01/19/2025 20:49:53] Zomactelonyvarix: I will continue moving forward relentlessly. Because if I give up, rogue necromancy will be ever
[01/19/2025 20:49:55] Zomactelonyvarix: an issue.
[01/19/2025 20:50:14] Zomactelonyvarix: We need a structured place of study.
[01/19/2025 20:50:20] Zomactelonyvarix: *spreads their arms*
[01/19/2025 20:50:24] Zomactelonyvarix: And here we are.
[01/19/2025 20:50:56] Zomactelonyvarix: If we try hard enough, we might just succeed.
[01/19/2025 20:51:14] Zomactelonyvarix: And if we fail, may our ideas echo through the ages and find an extension in the younger
[01/19/2025 20:51:16] Zomactelonyvarix: generations.
[01/19/2025 20:51:21] Zomactelonyvarix: In you, Rudy, my child.
[01/19/2025 20:51:43] Zomactelonyvarix: Carry this torch if I ever drop mine, yes?
[01/19/2025 20:51:54] Zomactelonyvarix: *pulls their cowl up again, reattaching the mask*
[01/19/2025 20:52:51] Rudyard Boneart: Of course I will.
[01/19/2025 20:52:55] Rudyard Boneart: Our survival depends on it
[01/19/2025 20:53:11] Rudyard Boneart: If we stop we will be persecuted forever for false blames
[01/19/2025 20:55:59] Zomactelonyvarix: Well put, Rudy. And a great statement to conclude our first class.
[01/19/2025 20:56:06] Zomactelonyvarix: Thank you for coming.

[04/27/2025 17:11:45] Volorano: *looks up at the speaker*
[04/27/2025 17:11:50] Zomactelonyvarix: Why don't we start off by introducing ourselves, then?
[04/27/2025 17:12:16] Bitasu: *looks around before stadning*
[04/27/2025 17:12:16] Clyde Marshal: *looks around room*
[04/27/2025 17:12:18] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks around the room, silencing, as if to let anyone speak*

[04/27/2025 17:12:43] Bitasu: i Am Bitasu. Monk of the ordoer of the fox and citizen of tilverton.

[04/27/2025 17:13:31] Clyde Marshal: *raises eyebrow*
[04/27/2025 17:13:37] Zomactelonyvarix: Thank you, Bitasu...
[04/27/2025 17:13:43] Bitasu: *bows before sitting*

[04/27/2025 17:14:41] Clyde Marshal: *half waves from seat*
[04/27/2025 17:14:43] Clyde Marshal: Clyde
[04/27/2025 17:14:43] Volorano: *He glanced involuntarily at his own, delicate-looking hands*
[04/27/2025 17:14:52] Clyde Marshal: I dont like much...
[04/27/2025 17:14:58] Clyde Marshal: *drinks some liquor*
[04/27/2025 17:15:11] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:15:30] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods to Clyde, then glances at the three figures in the second row*
[04/27/2025 17:15:50] Felice Trix: Well, I am Felice
[04/27/2025 17:16:00] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:16:14] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods to her*
[04/27/2025 17:16:32] Volorano: I am Volorano. A student of the arcane arts, and a traveller upon the paths of knowledge
[04/27/2025 17:16:36] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:16:42] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:16:43] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods to him as well*
[04/27/2025 17:16:44] Volorano: May our meeting be of mutual value
[04/27/2025 17:16:48] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:16:54] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:17:00] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:17:01] Volorano: *he offers a slight, dignified bow of the head *
[04/27/2025 17:17:02] Zomactelonyvarix: Felice... And Volorano... well met.
[04/27/2025 17:17:10] Zomactelonyvarix: Lastly...
[04/27/2025 17:17:18] Rudyard Boneart: *stands up a little*
[04/27/2025 17:17:18] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:17:19] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances to Rudyard*
[04/27/2025 17:17:31] Rudyard Boneart: *nods to the audience with a tip of his hat*
[04/27/2025 17:17:47] Rudyard Boneart: my name is Rudyard, and I am honored to be a pupil of the Overseer himself.
[04/27/2025 17:18:07] Rudyard Boneart: My ultimate goal is to seek for knowledge and uncover mysteries...
[04/27/2025 17:18:24] Rudyard Boneart: *becomes silent and sits down *
[04/27/2025 17:18:29] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods slowly*
[04/27/2025 17:18:42] Zomactelonyvarix: And mysteries we shall uncover. Without further a do, let us commence.
[04/27/2025 17:19:12] Zomactelonyvarix: This ... is not a speech. It is a dicussion. If at any given moment, one of you wishes to pose a question or add a comment, by all means.
[04/27/2025 17:19:26] Zomactelonyvarix: I welcome all contributions.
[04/27/2025 17:20:12] Zomactelonyvarix: *casually glances to the clock on the wall, nodding they sit back against the table*
[04/27/2025 17:20:39] Clyde Marshal: *nods*
[04/27/2025 17:20:50] Zomactelonyvarix: I will begin by saying magic... is a byproduct.
[04/27/2025 17:21:26] Zomactelonyvarix: This Plane of existence.. The Material Plane.. is sustained by 5 elements.
[04/27/2025 17:22:18] Zomactelonyvarix: Earth... Fire... Water... Air... and... Would anyone care to mention the 5th?
[04/27/2025 17:22:28] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances around the room*
[04/27/2025 17:22:41] Clyde Marshal: ...
[04/27/2025 17:22:48] Rudyard Boneart: Aether.
[04/27/2025 17:22:53] Volorano: hmm
[04/27/2025 17:22:56] Zomactelonyvarix: *nods*
[04/27/2025 17:23:15] Zomactelonyvarix: Correct, Rudyard. Aether. The unseen force. The mystic element.
[04/27/2025 17:23:37] Zomactelonyvarix: The humanoid constitution is capable of processing them all.
[04/27/2025 17:24:10] Bitasu: *looks at his hands*
[04/27/2025 17:24:14] Zomactelonyvarix: The water we drink... the air we breath... the warmth of the sun or a fire... the fruits of the soil
[04/27/2025 17:24:34] Clyde Marshal: *drinks some liquor*
[04/27/2025 17:24:43] Zomactelonyvarix: All these get consumed and turned to energy.
[04/27/2025 17:25:08] Bitasu: *raises his hand**
[04/27/2025 17:25:22] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over to Bitasu and points at him*
[04/27/2025 17:25:25] Zomactelonyvarix: Yes, Bitasu?
[04/27/2025 17:26:00] Bitasu: This Aether.. would i be correcct in assuming it is similar to what We call Ki where i come from..
[04/27/2025 17:26:10] Bitasu: The enternal enregy in all things?
[04/27/2025 17:26:18] Zomactelonyvarix: *smiles behind the mask*
[04/27/2025 17:26:58] Zomactelonyvarix: More or less. I was about to get to that, matter-of-factly.
[04/27/2025 17:27:20] Bitasu: *nods and makes a note or two in his 'cookbook'*
[04/27/2025 17:27:34] Clyde Marshal: *glances over at the book*
[04/27/2025 17:27:41] Zomactelonyvarix: Those magically inclined or attuned are able to intercept Aether from the world around them.
[04/27/2025 17:28:00] Clyde Marshal: *drinks some liquor*
[04/27/2025 17:28:01] Zomactelonyvarix: And upon processing it... they also turn it to energy.
[04/27/2025 17:28:12] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:28:18] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:28:18] Zomactelonyvarix: Magical energy... Or, as we often call it: Mana.
[04/27/2025 17:28:24] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:28:30] Zomactelonyvarix: Or Ki, Bitasu.
[04/27/2025 17:28:54] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:29:10] Zomactelonyvarix: Just as the elements fuel our body to move... to act... to speak...
[04/27/2025 17:29:26] Clyde Marshal: *drinks some liquor*
[04/27/2025 17:29:37] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:29:41] Zomactelonyvarix: Some of us are capable of channeling the magical energy into specific effects.
[04/27/2025 17:29:58] a dog: a dog
[04/27/2025 17:30:02] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:30:08] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:30:12] Clyde Marshal: *stares at dog*
[04/27/2025 17:30:26] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:30:30] Zomactelonyvarix: *conjures an illusionary dog, its image almost translucent, glinting with tiny stars*
[04/27/2025 17:30:38] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:30:44] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:31:00] Zomactelonyvarix: And with it... we're able to create...
[04/27/2025 17:31:05] Zomactelonyvarix: Transform...
[04/27/2025 17:31:10] Zomactelonyvarix: Or destroy...
[04/27/2025 17:31:14] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:31:36] Clyde Marshal: What determines the limit here? Why not absorb a bunch of power and summon an army of dogs?
[04/27/2025 17:31:38] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:31:51] Zomactelonyvarix: Ahh, that is an excellent question.
[04/27/2025 17:32:04] Zomactelonyvarix: *points at Clyde*
[04/27/2025 17:32:48] Zomactelonyvarix: You see, even the fastest of the runners cannot consume all the food in the world to run faster.
[04/27/2025 17:33:08] Zomactelonyvarix: To him, and to us, the limit is the body. Always the body.
[04/27/2025 17:33:10] Volorano: *He listens to the discussion nodding occasionally, his expression focused*
[04/27/2025 17:33:21] Zomactelonyvarix: *says this almost sadly*
[04/27/2025 17:33:27] Rudyard Boneart: can the body be altered... to bypass those limits?
[04/27/2025 17:33:36] Rudyard Boneart: *plays with fire when asking this*
[04/27/2025 17:33:48] Clyde Marshal: *nods to rudyard*
[04/27/2025 17:33:59] Bitasu: A vessel is limited in it's capacity by it's form. a cup may only hold so much water before it over flows and is wasted on the ground
[04/27/2025 17:33:59] Zomactelonyvarix: *their gaze becomes stern as it finds Rudyard after the question*
[04/27/2025 17:34:21] Rudyard Boneart: *his face shows nothing but a naive curiosity*
[04/27/2025 17:34:27] Rudyard Boneart: *which is obviously a mask*
[04/27/2025 17:34:28] Zomactelonyvarix: It has been tried.
[04/27/2025 17:34:35] Zomactelonyvarix: In many ways.
[04/27/2025 17:34:54] Zomactelonyvarix: All of which warrant unwelcome consequences.
[04/27/2025 17:35:11] Clyde Marshal: Anyone come close?
[04/27/2025 17:35:13] Zomactelonyvarix: The pursuit of unlimited power has been the downfall of many a mages throughout the ages.
[04/27/2025 17:35:15] Clyde Marshal: *raises eyebrow*
[04/27/2025 17:35:42] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over to Clyde, pensive*
[04/27/2025 17:36:04] Zomactelonyvarix: The Reformist Faction of the ancient elves, I would say.
[04/27/2025 17:36:15] Clyde Marshal: *nods slow*
[04/27/2025 17:36:25] Clyde Marshal: Of course the goddamn elves..
[04/27/2025 17:36:28] Clyde Marshal: *scoffs*
[04/27/2025 17:36:33] Clyde Marshal: *drinks some liquor*
[04/27/2025 17:36:36] Zomactelonyvarix: But they too failed. And the result? The fall of Jyn-Pal... and a gateway permanently open to Hell.
[04/27/2025 17:36:45] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:36:54] Zomactelonyvarix: There are.. of course.. other less ambitious mages, who attempted it through immortality.
[04/27/2025 17:37:01] Clyde Marshal: Oh...
[04/27/2025 17:37:06] Rudyard Boneart: I believe some of the failed mages can be found on the lower levels of it.
[04/27/2025 17:37:16] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:37:29] Clyde Marshal: Damn..
[04/27/2025 17:37:33] Clyde Marshal: *shakes head*
[04/27/2025 17:37:46] Zomactelonyvarix: Preserving the spirit at the cost of the body. Known as Liches. My own shameful colleagues.
[04/27/2025 17:37:46] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:37:48] Volorano: Well, then, if the body and form are the limit, could the power be stored elsewhere..
[04/27/2025 17:37:55] Volorano: and accessed at will?
[04/27/2025 17:38:04] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:38:11] Zomactelonyvarix: *points to Volorano*
[04/27/2025 17:38:14] Zomactelonyvarix: *then nods*
[04/27/2025 17:38:38] Zomactelonyvarix: The Lichdom process was the prototype. Storing one's mana and even part of one's soul...
[04/27/2025 17:38:51] Zomactelonyvarix: ...into a phylactery. An arcane focus of immense power.
[04/27/2025 17:39:26] Zomactelonyvarix: Allowing a mage to extend not only their existence, but also their power.
[04/27/2025 17:39:39] Volorano: Interesting
[04/27/2025 17:39:47] Zomactelonyvarix: Free from the chains of this.. vessel.. *says as they look down* ..there is only the mind.
[04/27/2025 17:39:50] Zomactelonyvarix: And the mind is limitless.
[04/27/2025 17:40:01] Zomactelonyvarix: But!
[04/27/2025 17:40:04] Zomactelonyvarix: *raises an index*
[04/27/2025 17:40:11] Clyde Marshal: *tilts head*
[04/27/2025 17:40:15] Zomactelonyvarix: It comes at a cost, as I said.
[04/27/2025 17:40:29] Clyde Marshal: What about like a half way?
[04/27/2025 17:40:38] Clyde Marshal: Not sacrificing the whole body?
[04/27/2025 17:40:41] Clyde Marshal: Just parts?
[04/27/2025 17:40:43] Zomactelonyvarix: As the body ages and decays, so does the brain. And all that unbound power...
[04/27/2025 17:40:55] Zomactelonyvarix: ...becomes lost in itself.
[04/27/2025 17:41:08] Bitasu: water on the ground.
[04/27/2025 17:41:09] Zomactelonyvarix: That is why most liches are raving mad.
[04/27/2025 17:41:11] Bitasu: *nods*
[04/27/2025 17:41:17] Clyde Marshal: Mmm
[04/27/2025 17:41:19] Rudyard Boneart: *nods*
[04/27/2025 17:41:27] Rudyard Boneart: and pardon me... they also look ugly. And very unfashionable.
[04/27/2025 17:41:38] Clyde Marshal: *looks down at self*
[04/27/2025 17:41:44] Clyde Marshal: *looks to rudyard*
[04/27/2025 17:41:53] Bitasu: *chuckles lightly *
[04/27/2025 17:41:59] Zomactelonyvarix: Just... an arcane force... uncontrolled... limitless... but without the means to enjoy the power it attained. Lost and insane, for all eternity.
[04/27/2025 17:42:15] Zomactelonyvarix: Or until someone destroys their phylactery.
[04/27/2025 17:42:48] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over to Clyde then*
[04/27/2025 17:42:49] Bitasu: *makes a few more notes.*
[04/27/2025 17:42:57] Zomactelonyvarix: As to taking the process half way...
[04/27/2025 17:43:34] Zomactelonyvarix: That is a question of the ages, of the centuries, my friend. As far as I know, it never succeeded, but because it was never attempted.
[04/27/2025 17:43:54] Clyde Marshal: Hmm
[04/27/2025 17:44:19] Clyde Marshal: *looks to Zomas hand*
[04/27/2025 17:44:21] Bitasu: i'd imagine if your arm is a bone.. how does this affect the living flesh it's attached too..
[04/27/2025 17:44:27] Bitasu: sounds quite messy
[04/27/2025 17:44:53] Zomactelonyvarix: *can't help but notice the massive pile of pitchers upon Clyde's desk*
[04/27/2025 17:45:00] Clyde Marshal: ...
[04/27/2025 17:45:06] Zomactelonyvarix: *chuckles quietly, then clears their throat*
[04/27/2025 17:45:16] Clyde Marshal: *drinks some liquor*
[04/27/2025 17:45:23] Zomactelonyvarix: There are, of course, mysteries yet unsolved.
[04/27/2025 17:45:39] Zomactelonyvarix: For example... while we know of the existence of this 5th element...
[04/27/2025 17:45:45] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:45:48] Zomactelonyvarix: Where does it come from?
[04/27/2025 17:46:05] Zomactelonyvarix: The other 4 are easier to gauge and comprehend. But Aether?
[04/27/2025 17:46:20] Zomactelonyvarix: What generates it?
[04/27/2025 17:46:27] Clyde Marshal: *hic*
[04/27/2025 17:46:38] Zomactelonyvarix: *motions towards those seated, as if in hopes someone would theorize an answer*
[04/27/2025 17:47:00] Bitasu: *tucks the quill he was writing with under his nose briefly in thought*
[04/27/2025 17:47:32] Rudyard Boneart: I believe all the life does
[04/27/2025 17:47:34] Clyde Marshal: *squints eyes*
[04/27/2025 17:47:43] Zomactelonyvarix: Oh?
[04/27/2025 17:47:46] Felice Trix: Oh... It's late already... Thank you for all the knowledge.
[04/27/2025 17:47:56] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over as Rudyard speaks up*
[04/27/2025 17:48:00] Bitasu: *blinks*
[04/27/2025 17:48:09] Bitasu: huh....
[04/27/2025 17:48:13] Bitasu: that was sudden
[04/27/2025 17:48:17] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over and blinks*
[04/27/2025 17:48:22] Bitasu: when you gotta go you gotta go..
[04/27/2025 17:48:25] Zomactelonyvarix: Hmm.
[04/27/2025 17:48:29] Clyde Marshal: ...
[04/27/2025 17:48:34] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks back to Rudyard*
[04/27/2025 17:48:37] Rudyard Boneart: maybe she has eaten something...
[04/27/2025 17:48:39] Zomactelonyvarix: All life, you said?
[04/27/2025 17:48:49] Zomactelonyvarix: Would you care to expand upon it?
[04/27/2025 17:48:50] Rudyard Boneart: just a wild guess, mentor.
[04/27/2025 17:49:00] Bitasu: *raises a hand*
[04/27/2025 17:49:04] Bitasu: if I may?
[04/27/2025 17:49:16] Zomactelonyvarix: Of course.
[04/27/2025 17:49:17] Rudyard Boneart: *motions for Bitasu to take it from here*
[04/27/2025 17:49:36] Bitasu: As merely a guess based on the teaching of my own master.. relating to Ki..
[04/27/2025 17:50:09] Bitasu: but Perhaps since all things have some quantity of this mana.. when we..
[04/27/2025 17:50:18] Bitasu: those who know how to harnass it..
[04/27/2025 17:50:41] Bitasu: When we gather it up it perhaps comes from those who can not.
[04/27/2025 17:50:44] Bitasu: a borrowing
[04/27/2025 17:50:49] Bitasu: *shrug*
[04/27/2025 17:51:01] Clyde Marshal: Hmm
[04/27/2025 17:51:07] Bitasu: but i supose that doesnt answr where it came grom at the start..
[04/27/2025 17:51:11] Zomactelonyvarix: An interesting proposition, Bitasu.
[04/27/2025 17:51:19] Clyde Marshal: Would slaying other magic users make this in more abundance then?
[04/27/2025 17:51:26] Volorano: That would explain cataclysms and decay, hm
[04/27/2025 17:51:29] Clyde Marshal: *shrugs*
[04/27/2025 17:51:39] Zomactelonyvarix: And if we borrow too much...
[04/27/2025 17:51:47] Zomactelonyvarix: *points at Volorano*
[04/27/2025 17:51:51] Zomactelonyvarix: Cataclysm
[04/27/2025 17:52:33] Zomactelonyvarix: There is, however, another theory.
[04/27/2025 17:52:51] Zomactelonyvarix: That all Aether comes from the Gods themselves.
[04/27/2025 17:53:07] Clyde Marshal: *rolls eyes*
[04/27/2025 17:53:08] Zomactelonyvarix: Which would explain.. the magic performed by Clerics and Paladins
[04/27/2025 17:53:20] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks at Clyde as they say "paladin"*
[04/27/2025 17:53:33] Clyde Marshal: ...
[04/27/2025 17:53:33] Zomactelonyvarix: Fueled by a higher being.
[04/27/2025 17:53:45] Zomactelonyvarix: Who chose one as their champion.
[04/27/2025 17:54:06] Zomactelonyvarix: If that was the case, though...
[04/27/2025 17:54:09] Clyde Marshal: *looks around room*
[04/27/2025 17:54:13] Bitasu: *also looks at Clyde the not so steritypical paladin????*
[04/27/2025 17:54:20] Zomactelonyvarix: *taps their chin in thought*
[04/27/2025 17:54:29] Zomactelonyvarix: What entity would fuel mages?
[04/27/2025 17:54:48] Rudyard Boneart: *grins as if he knows the answer*
[04/27/2025 17:54:59] Zomactelonyvarix: As far as I know, there are no gods of magic among the human pantheon.
[04/27/2025 17:55:55] Zomactelonyvarix: And as such, through the ages, other types of entities, not of the divine nature, but of the...
[04/27/2025 17:56:14] Zomactelonyvarix: ...eldritch nature, were postulated as the probable cause.
[04/27/2025 17:56:33] Zomactelonyvarix: To name one, The Stranger, the patron deity of this city.
[04/27/2025 17:57:05] Zomactelonyvarix: Many believe It had shown the first arcane formulas to the primeval men.
[04/27/2025 17:57:20] Clyde Marshal: *opens eyes a bit*
[04/27/2025 17:57:43] Zomactelonyvarix: There is also another theory... that proposes a... cycle of sorts.
[04/27/2025 17:57:47] Zomactelonyvarix: Or... a recycle I should say.
[04/27/2025 17:58:19] Zomactelonyvarix: In that Mana, when used, simply returns to the world as Aether, to be used again and again.
[04/27/2025 17:58:45] Bitasu: this is how We of the Fox see Ki
[04/27/2025 17:58:59] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks over to Bitasu*
[04/27/2025 17:59:16] Rudyard Boneart: *raises hand*
[04/27/2025 17:59:22] Zomactelonyvarix: *points to Rudyard*
[04/27/2025 17:59:25] Zomactelonyvarix: Yes, Rudyard?
[04/27/2025 17:59:45] Rudyard Boneart: If the Stranger showed the first formulas to the men... did he also do this to elven mages?
[04/27/2025 17:59:58] Clyde Marshal: *looks to Zoma*
[04/27/2025 18:00:01] Zomactelonyvarix: *shakes their head slowly*
[04/27/2025 18:00:12] Zomactelonyvarix: The elves were here longer than us.
[04/27/2025 18:00:22] Rudyard Boneart: does this mean they found these out by the other way and... didn't share them with other races?
[04/27/2025 18:00:40] Zomactelonyvarix: And they have their own pantheon.
[04/27/2025 18:00:43] Clyde Marshal: Who would want to share power
[04/27/2025 18:00:56] Volorano: hmm on the subject of power...
[04/27/2025 18:01:00] Zomactelonyvarix: The Valar granted the elves all their gifts, including magic.
[04/27/2025 18:01:09] Volorano: *He lifts his gaze, his expression as composed as ever*
[04/27/2025 18:01:17] Zomactelonyvarix: And the gifts of the Valar are rarely, if ever, shared with outsiders.
[04/27/2025 18:01:28] Clyde Marshal: Greedy elves
[04/27/2025 18:01:31] Clyde Marshal: ..
[04/27/2025 18:01:32] Volorano: If the arcane holds the potential to tear the very fabric of our world...
[04/27/2025 18:01:45] Zomactelonyvarix: So, in a way, they did learn spellcasting before all others. And kept it for themselves.
[04/27/2025 18:01:49] Volorano: why is its practice left so free of true restraint?
[04/27/2025 18:02:04] Bitasu: more like. wary and frightend.. though they seem to have good reasons.. that ruin to the south being one
[04/27/2025 18:02:13] Zomactelonyvarix: *looks to Volorano*
[04/27/2025 18:02:39] Zomactelonyvarix: There have been many institutions who attempted to regulate the magical users.
[04/27/2025 18:03:12] Volorano: hm
[04/27/2025 18:03:22] Zomactelonyvarix: To stablish rules and laws to be followed, to avoid the risks you cited.
[04/27/2025 18:03:46] Zomactelonyvarix: One such institution was the Imperium Arcanum... now nothing but a shadow.
[04/27/2025 18:03:52] Volorano: Good, I enjoy my freedom
[04/27/2025 18:04:36] Zomactelonyvarix: Another institution was the Wyrd Cabal, which has taken root here in Tilverton.
[04/27/2025 18:04:43] Zomactelonyvarix: An institution of which I was the leader.
[04/27/2025 18:05:03] Zomactelonyvarix: Yet our only concern was with rogue necromancers.
[04/27/2025 18:05:21] Zomactelonyvarix: Liches out of control, lost to time.
[04/27/2025 18:05:54] Clyde Marshal: !
[04/27/2025 18:05:59] Zomactelonyvarix: We tried to ... keep their numbers to a minimum. For our own sake. The world views necromancy as nothing less than an affront. Much thanks to my predecessors' actions.
[04/27/2025 18:06:57] Zomactelonyvarix: But as far as rules and control go? We are opposed to any form of oppression and tyrany.
[04/27/2025 18:07:01] Bitasu: it only takes one bad apple to ruin the batch.
[04/27/2025 18:07:13] Clyde Marshal: *smirks*
[04/27/2025 18:07:37] Zomactelonyvarix: The fear of the unknown is no excuse. The canvas which is magic.. is still blank for the most part.
[04/27/2025 18:07:52] Zomactelonyvarix: And I long to see this painting concluded.
[04/27/2025 18:08:01] Volorano: Hmm I see
[04/27/2025 18:08:06] Volorano: *nods a few times*
[04/27/2025 18:08:18] Zomactelonyvarix: I, too, Volorano, appreciate my freedom.
[04/27/2025 18:08:29] Zomactelonyvarix: *the golden skull mask almost seems to be grinning*
[04/27/2025 18:08:59] Zomactelonyvarix: *glances to the clock on the wall casually*
[04/27/2025 18:09:14] Zomactelonyvarix: Oh, we are reaching the end of this meeting.
[04/27/2025 18:09:43] Zomactelonyvarix: As a closing thought, I give you a reflection exercise.
[04/27/2025 18:10:16] Zomactelonyvarix: Spellcasting is no different than a sprint. Both actions require energy. This energy comes from an external source and is processed by the body.
[04/27/2025 18:10:45] Zomactelonyvarix: Now...
[04/27/2025 18:10:56] Zomactelonyvarix: *raises a index, pausing for effect*
[04/27/2025 18:11:22] Bitasu: *tilts his head beifly*
[04/27/2025 18:11:39] Zomactelonyvarix: The limit of the body prevents even a mage to learn more than one school.
[04/27/2025 18:12:44] Zomactelonyvarix: The question I leave you with, is this: what happens to a body who tries to master two?
[04/27/2025 18:13:01] Zomactelonyvarix: Not limitless power, but only two. Just one step further than it can withstand.
[04/27/2025 18:13:21] Zomactelonyvarix: That, my friends, is the mystery of this century.
[04/27/2025 18:13:32] Zomactelonyvarix: Who knows if among you isn't the scholar who will decipher it.
[04/27/2025 18:14:01] Zomactelonyvarix: I look forward to it.
[04/27/2025 18:14:10] Zomactelonyvarix: *dips their head*
