Human Culture

The Humans of the world largely fit into two major cultural groups; Mercadian and Ka’Mellan.

Mercadians hail from the mainland, where the major religions follow the worship of Talathas and Adalia. The Kingdom of Mercadia has traditionally been run as a Monarchy, with a standing military, and various religious and economic organizations rising and falling. Mercadia has been largely politically stable, and has suffered no major civil war, or strife since it’s founding some three hundred years prior. In terms of looks, Mercadians tend to be fair skinned but can run the spectrum for colouring as they share a wide variety of heritages.

Ka’Mella by contast is a small island territory off the continental coast, it’s people are largely divided into Tribes which spend much of their time fighting amongst each other over matters of honour, territory, and game as well as commerce. Ka’Mellans follow two major Dieities Kamalini, The Mother and Kinurgi The Father. Ka’Mellans tend to view honour and commitment as critical as it is what bonds together tribal groups, as well as familial ties. They tend towards loser sociological ties, as Ka’Mella lacks a strong central government, paying more homage to individual tribe leaders or warlords. Ka’Mella has suffered from a lengthy history of instability since it’s settlement. In terms of looks, Ka’Mellans tend to have darker skin tone, hair colour and eye colour.

These Territories and cultures are some of the ones OOCly, that exist beyond the displayed the map.

Kelt; This small continent to the North of the established territories has spent the last thirty years in a state of civil War. The Kingdom of Kelt is ruled by the Royal Family of Hapsenbran. The rebellion against the crown followed the ascension to the throne of King Albert III after the death of his Father King Janus. The new regime taxed the Lords of the land to the point that widespread famine and poverty coupled with poor harvests led the Lords to refuse to pay their tariffs and cropshares. The crown responded by sending their military into the holdings of those who refused, but they were generally unable to overwhelm local forces, who were more familiar with their lands and used this advantage to resist.

This led to the King recruiting several mercenary companies that served in the civil war, amongst them the Crimson Dawn; A company largely manned by Ka’Mellan sellswords. Anyone else who wished to have a ‘War Torn’ land sort of background or have served in a Mercenary army during civil unrest or times of strife could have come from Kelt, or spent time in Kelt. Starvation, illness and banditry were common parts of life in war torn regions in Kelt, as was the effects of a corrupt overzealous monarchy. The Crown ultimately fell but the chaos that followed leaves things open as regions may have experienced different results.
