Elven pairs are typically extremely compatible fighters who have trained together for extensive periods of time and do not require much in the way of verbal communication, often acting entirely off of their familiarity with the other's strengths while covering for any gaps in their technique. Pairs do not usually include Elves who are learning their way in the world, though it is not entirely impossible to encounter a new pair somewhere in the world it is rare they would be found beyond the borders of Elven lands.

Elven Lances are the smallest group that will include a designated leader, but their command structure is not strict. Quite often a lance is lead by a more experienced Elf who will be responsible for mentoring a pair. That said, a lance can also be comprised entirely of a more experienced group of Elves sent out to accomplish a particular task on behalf of Arandor.

Lances introduce the concept of leadership and mentorship within the elven ranks. A lance typically consists of three to five elves, including at least one pair, led by a veteran who not only commands but also guides and nurtures the skills of the members. This structure allows for a blend of strategic oversight and personal combat prowess, making lances highly versatile units capable of undertaking a variety of missions, from reconnaissance to targeted strikes. The leader of a lance is often chosen for their wisdom and combat experience, serving as a bridge between the individual excellence of pairs and the collective strength of larger units.

Elven Squads have a strict command structure and are the smallest group with a designated leader. They are often dispatched to respond to direct threats to Arandor, assault enemy positions, or carry out specific tasks. Squads are, quite often, the largest contingent of Elves that will be seen outside of Elven Lands. They can be comprised of as little as four Elves. It is not uncommon for a squad to include one or more pairs, though it is not a strict requirement. If their King or Queen should leave Elven lands, it is not uncommon that he or she is accompanied by a group at least this size.

The squad represents a significant escalation in organizational complexity and strategic capability. Comprising up to ten elves, squads integrate multiple pairs or individual fighters under a formal command hierarchy, enabling them to tackle more substantial threats or undertake complex missions. The strict command structure ensures clear communication and coordination, crucial for operations requiring precise timing and synchronized actions. Squads are the embodiment of elven military precision, capable of executing high-stakes operations with a blend of stealth, agility, and overwhelming force.

Elven Companies are usually only assembled to respond to an immediate threat to Arnador or to travel to some of the most hostile territories. Elven companies, though rare, are a sight to behold as they are quite often comprised of highly trained and well equipped Elves. As with a squad, their members can include several pairs, and they defer to a leader to make their decisions. Elven companies do not often travel into the other realms without permission, except in passing, so as to avoid any misunderstandings unless there is simply no way to avoid such an action.

Military and Tactics

Elves make up for their lack of numbers by creating complementary groups consisting of two to ten members. That is not to say they will never travel, or fight, alone but their low birth rates and longevity has instilled a culture that lends itself well to the idea of working in familiar groups so that they are both cohesive and devastatingly effective.

Pair

Elven pairs represent the foundation of their combat doctrine, emphasizing deep personal bonds and intuitive understanding between the two members. These pairs are the epitome of precision and harmony, often resulting from decades, if not centuries, of training and companionship. Their effectiveness lies in their ability to anticipate each other's moves and complement each other's fighting styles seamlessly. While pairs are generally formed from among the more experienced elves, exceptions exist where novice elves are paired, usually under extraordinary circumstances or as part of a specific mentorship program designed to rapidly elevate their skills.

Lance

Lances introduce the concept of leadership and mentorship within the elven ranks. A lance typically consists of three to five elves, including at least one pair, led by a veteran who not only commands but also guides and nurtures the skills of the members. This structure allows for a blend of strategic oversight and personal combat prowess, making lances highly versatile units capable of undertaking a variety of missions, from reconnaissance to targeted strikes. The leader of a lance is often chosen for their wisdom and combat experience, serving as a bridge between the individual excellence of pairs and the collective strength of larger units.

Squad

The squad represents a significant escalation in organizational complexity and strategic capability. Comprising up to ten elves, squads integrate multiple pairs or individual fighters under a formal command hierarchy, enabling them to tackle more substantial threats or undertake complex missions. The strict command structure ensures clear communication and coordination, crucial for operations requiring precise timing and synchronized actions. Squads are the embodiment of elven military precision, capable of executing high-stakes operations with a blend of stealth, agility, and overwhelming force.

Company

Companies are the largest tactical units within the elven military framework, assembled only in times of dire need or for missions of critical importance. A company may include several squads and pairs, forming a formidable force of dozens of elves. The leadership of a company is a position of great honor and responsibility, requiring not only tactical acumen but also the ability to inspire and unite a diverse array of warriors. Companies are equipped with the best weapons and armor Arnador can provide, making them a rare but awe-inspiring presence on the battlefield. Their deployment is a statement of the elves' commitment to a cause, willing to unleash a considerable portion of their martial prowess to protect their homeland or allies.
