The Tribe is second most important aspect of orc life. For without the tribe, how can one survive? All orcs understand that it is not only the strength of the individual, but the strength of the many, that decides the the fulfillment of the promise of Gruumsh. As such the tribe represents the single minded dedication to Gruumsh.
+
=The Orcish Clans=
In the tribe all things are shared. Orcs have no real concept of economics. It is also a meritocracy at it's finest, the strongest are rewarded with the finer weapons and armor. Though food and drink are readily given to all, Orcs covet their gear, as it is their status symbol, their trophies in service to the All-Goth.

Life in the tribe can be harsh at times, as the demand for constant bettering of one's self and the tribe can lead to serious in fighting at times, but these situations only occur when the Warchief or Warshaman is seen as too weak to continue leading the tribe. In normal times, a day in the life of an Orc is filled with fighting, worship, and gathering materials for the makers of the tribe. Games of drinking and eating are also a common occurrence and usually end when one is incapacitated. When the Warchief feels it is time, a Ride will be called, it is at this time that all warriors and shamans of the tribe ride into the "civilized lands" and demand tribute to bring for Gruumsh. Individual Orcs are encouraged to ride on their own, getting to know the land and fighting to better themselves, though a captured orc is a dead orc. (Unless they are able to escape).

Very few orcs venture away from the tribe, as the tribal mentality is so ingrained in them, that the thought of being away from the tribe is in fact being far away from Gruumsh. Orcs that leave the tribe are considered traitors before the eyes of Gruumsh and are declared the greatest of enemies. No mercy is shown to them and their deaths will be incredibly slow and painful.

The number and types of rituals and rites performed are many. Most shamans have their own personal rituals that they will perform at any point in time. These are considered lesser rituals and are too numerous to mention. There are a few major events and rituals that the Orcs hold at certain times

The Orcs of Burz'kal the Burz'kal Clan are the most revered and feared among their kind. They are giants of muscle and bone, bred for battle and survival in their harsh volcanic homeland. Their skin, a deep slate gray or dark green, is thick and scarred from countless battles. Eyes burn with the intensity of a fire stoked by Gruumsh's divine will, and their tusks, often adorned with metal bands or carvings, signify victories in battle. Driven by honor, loyalty, and a relentless desire to prove their strength, they embody Orcish power. Warriors of Burz'kal are unmatched in combat, wielding weapons forged in the sacred fires of their volcanic home. They are fiercely protective of Burz'kal, viewing it as a sacred ground where Gruumsh's power is most strongly felt. In times of war, they become an unstoppable force, descending from their stronghold with unmatched ferocity and discipline. Despite their fierce reputation, the Orcs of Burz'kal follow a strict code of conduct that values courage and loyalty. Their Warchief and Warshaman lead them not just as rulers but as paragons of Gruumsh's ideals. To face the Orcs of Burz'kal is to confront the unyielding strength and spirit of a people devoted to the path of strength, honor, and conquest.

'''The Ride''':

The Ride is the fundamental gathering of the tribe. The orcs gather at the call of the Warchief and ride into the world to perform their sacred duty of culling the weak and collecting Tribute from the other races so that they may please Gruumsh. The Ride also serves as a test for the orcs themselves to see who performs best in combat and thus determine who is ready to be rewarded (or punished). The Ride is usually called once or twice a Moon cycle, it really depends on the Warchief.

'''The Great Tribute''':

The Great Tribute is grand ritual of the Orcs. Performed at the beginning of each full moon, all tribute that has been gathered over the previous moon cycle is gathered and ritualistically given to Gruumsh. More useful items such as weapons and armor are given as trophies to the warriors who have shown their strength. Less useful items are given out to the tribe as needed or thrown into the caldera of Burz'kal. The Warshaman leads this ritual in conjunction with all other lesser shaman.

'''The Rite of Blood''':

The Rite of Blood in the challenge given when one orc feels that he is stronger than another and thus entitled to a claim. Usually this is over a particular piece of gear or in more dire cases, position of leadership. To keep this from being a case of simple bullying, The Warchief or Warshaman must decide if the challenge is just before the fight can occur. In the case of the Warshaman or Warchief being challenged for leadership, the challenge cannot be declined and results in the sacrifice of the loser to Gruumsh '''(*Note* If a challenge is issued to the Warchief or Warshaman, the loser accepts that their character will be Perma-dead, re-rolls will be at staff discretion, I cannot speak for them) (*Note2* Non-leadership challenges do not have to involve combat, IE a maker competition or story telling)'''

These are the most notable gatherings, rites and rituals of the orcs, however some other events are Blessed Ore Smelting, Bonfire nights and Hunts. These events can happen at any time and do not have to be led by the Warchief or Warshaman.

'''Tribal Hierarchy and Law'''
+
== The Mountain Clan ==
----

Within the tribe, like any other culture, there is a noted hierarchy and a few laws to regulate and lead the Orcs in the proper direction. The Hierarchy is as follows.
+
Mountain Orcs are built for endurance, standing as towering figures with muscular frames honed by the rugged terrain they call home. Their skin tones vary from deep earthy browns to slate gray, providing natural camouflage against the rocky cliffs and crags of their mountainous environment. This coloration allows them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings, giving them an advantage in both defense and surprise attacks. Their bodies are thick and powerful, built to navigate treacherous landscapes and withstand the extreme conditions of high altitudes. Living in the mountains has also given them a natural resistance to the cold and harsh weather, further fortifying their physical presence. These orcs are known for their stoic and resilient nature, shaped by the harsh, unforgiving conditions of their mountainous homes. From a young age, Mountain Orcs are taught to endure both physical and mental challenges, fostering a sense of inner strength and fortitude. The daily struggle for survival in such a demanding environment has instilled in them a deep respect for the power of the earth and the relentless forces of nature. They are calm and collected in the face of danger, rarely showing fear or hesitation. This stoicism extends to their demeanor in battle; they do not rush in blindly but instead assess the battlefield with a strategic mindset, using the natural landscape to their advantage. In combat, Mountain Orcs are relentless and determined, known for their ability to endure great hardship without complaint. They view pain and struggle as tests of their strength, believing that each trial they overcome only makes them stronger. This belief is reflected in their culture, where scars from battle are worn with pride as symbols of resilience and endurance. Mountain Orcs value strength, not just in physical might but in the ability to persevere through adversity. Their calm, unyielding nature in the heat of battle makes them formidable opponents, as they can maintain focus and composure even when the odds are against them. To them, every hardship is an opportunity to prove their worth to Gruumsh, reinforcing their status as some of the most resilient warriors among Orcish kind.

'''Warchief'''- The Warchief is the last word on all decisions for the Tribe. He is the undisputed champion and strongest of all orcs. It is at his discretion as to what direction the Tribe will take, though a smart Warcheif will listen to his Warshaman.
+
== The Swamp Clan ==

'''Warshaman'''- The Warshaman is the religious authority of the tribe. It is under his watchful eye that the tribe and Warcheif are headed in the proper direction as so to please Gruumsh. The Warshaman oversees all rituals and usually serves as arbitrator and speaker for the tribe in matters dealing with other races
+
Swamp Orcs are smaller and more agile compared to their mountain-dwelling kin. Their lithe, sinewy bodies are built for speed and flexibility, allowing them to move through the dense underbrush and treacherous bogs of the swamps with remarkable ease. Unlike the bulkier Mountain Orcs, Swamp Orcs possess a wiry strength that comes from a life of constant movement and adaptation. They have evolved to be light on their feet, capable of traversing unstable ground, avoiding quicksand, and climbing through tangled roots and vines with grace. This physical agility makes them adept at ambush tactics and guerrilla warfare, using the swamp's natural obstacles to outmaneuver enemies who might underestimate their smaller stature. Their skin, ranging from deep mossy green to muddy brown, serves as a natural camouflage within their murky surroundings. In the shadowy depths of the swamps, where light filters through a dense canopy of foliage, Swamp Orcs can blend almost seamlessly into the environment. This coloration not only provides them with a strategic advantage in hunting and combat but also reflects their deep connection to the swamp itself. Some Swamp Orcs even bear mottled or striped patterns on their skin, further enhancing their ability to remain unseen amidst the waterlogged terrain and thick vegetation. They often use mud and plant matter to further conceal themselves, masking their scent from predators and making them nearly invisible in the dim, humid swamps they call home.

'''Thupar'''- Thupar are the elite guard of the Tribe, and as such serve as commander of the Greenskins and Lazgul. There are only two Thupar at any given time and answer directly to the Warchief and Warshaman. These are probably the strongest orcs of the tribe save the Warchief, and command great respect. The position, however, can sometimes be short lived. This is usually the best many orcs can hope and thus there is much competetion. Though few understand it, The Thupar is possibly the most difficult position of leadership, not only being directly responsible for thier underlings, but they are forced to be at their peak at all times, less a more cunning Orc were to claim their title. Lazgul and Greenskins may become a Thupar
+
Cunning and resourcefulness are the hallmarks of Swamp Orcs, their personalities shaped by the constant need to survive in one of the most inhospitable environments. In the swamps, danger lurks in every shadow—whether it be from the treacherous terrain, venomous creatures, or rival clans. This has bred a culture of Orcs who are both shrewd and adaptable, capable of thinking on their feet and using whatever resources they have at hand. Swamp Orcs are masters of their domain, employing traps, poisons, and a deep understanding of the swamp's ecology to secure their survival. They have a keen sense of awareness and are always alert, knowing that the key to survival is not just physical strength but also the ability to outwit and outlast their surroundings. This cunning nature extends to their interactions with others; Swamp Orcs are cautious and guarded, often preferring subtlety and deception over direct confrontation unless it is to their advantage.

'''Greenskin'''- The Greenskin is the main force of the tribe. He is a battle tested warrior and his strength has been proven. It is when an Orc is made a Greenskin that he is given a weapon of Bloodrock, the sacred metal of Gruumsh. They are also the instructors in ways of combat for young orcs who have not earned their place.
+
== The Plains Clan ==

'''Lazgul'''- The Lazgul are the Orcs that show the ability to manifest the will of Gruumsh. Also known as the shamans, they serve under the warshaman much in the same capacity that the Greenskins serve the Warchief and as such hold the same place in society.
+
The Orcs of the plains are renowned for their unique and powerful bond with wargs, large wolf-like creatures that serve as their loyal mounts and companions. This bond is not merely a matter of utility; it is a deep, almost spiritual connection that defines much of the Plains Orc culture. From a young age, Plains Orcs are paired with a warg, creating a lifelong partnership based on mutual respect and trust. Together, they learn to hunt, fight, and survive on the open grasslands. This connection with their wargs makes the Plains Orcs some of the most formidable cavalry in the world. Mounted on these fearsome creatures, they can traverse vast distances with speed and precision, striking swiftly at their enemies before disappearing back into the endless horizon. The sight of a Plains Orc warband charging across the plains, wargs thundering beneath them, is enough to send shivers through the heart of even the bravest foe.

'''Maker'''- Behind every great society there are those that build. If the Greenskins are the fist of the Tribe, the the Makers are surely the backbone. Since the earliest encounters with Humans, the makers have learned to bend metal and wood, sew and tan leather all to serve the Tribe in it's great promise. Given the Orcish philosophy of strength, the orcish armory is filled with some of the deadliest weapons around. The makers are organized by the Headmaker who works with the Thupar to oversee the needs of the Tribe.
+
Physically, Plains Orcs are tall and lean, built for speed and endurance rather than sheer brute strength. Their skin is often a sun-kissed bronze, a result of their constant exposure to the elements as they travel across the grasslands. This weathered appearance, along with their strong, sinewy muscles, speaks to their life of ceaseless movement. Plains Orcs are highly agile and fast, perfectly suited for the demands of their nomadic lifestyle. They are skilled riders, capable of guiding their wargs with subtle shifts of their body and near-telepathic communication. This agility is not limited to riding; Plains Orcs are also adept hunters and scouts, using their keen senses and intimate knowledge of the land to track prey and evade threats. Their tall, wiry frames make them deceptively strong, able to endure long journeys and fight with the ferocity of a predator when the need arises.

Young Orcs that have not been given a proper place in the tribe serve as auxiliary forces and are usually resigned to doing grunt work for the tribe when they are not training for battle, be that mining for ore or chopping wood or tending to the herds. It is on them to earn their place in the tribe.
+
Living in close harmony with their wargs and the land has shaped the Plains Orcs into a free-spirited, loyal, and fiercely protective people. They are nomads at heart, moving with the seasons and following the migratory patterns of the creatures they hunt. This nomadic lifestyle has instilled in them a profound respect for the natural world and the cycles of life. They view the plains not just as a territory to be defended but as a living entity that sustains and guides them. Their loyalty extends beyond their wargs to their clans, as they are deeply committed to the well-being of their people. Plains Orcs value freedom and autonomy, both for themselves and their kin, and will go to great lengths to protect their way of life. This sense of freedom is balanced by a strong sense of duty and honor; they are bound by the traditions of their ancestors and the teachings of Gruumsh, which emphasize the importance of unity and strength. To the Plains Orcs, every member of the clan has a role to play, and every action they take is a step toward ensuring the survival and prosperity of their people.

'''Laws of the Tribe'''
+
Jungle Orcs are of medium height, with lean and athletic builds that make them exceptionally suited for the challenges of their dense, verdant homeland. Living amidst towering trees, tangled vines, and a labyrinth of undergrowth, they have developed physical traits that allow them to navigate this environment with remarkable ease. Their limbs are strong yet flexible, enabling them to climb trees quickly and traverse the uneven terrain with grace. They are capable of moving silently through the jungle, their movements as fluid as the shifting shadows that surround them. This agility makes them adept hunters and warriors, able to launch surprise attacks from the treetops or disappear into the foliage before an enemy even realizes they were there. Their training from a young age involves not only developing their physical prowess but also honing their senses to detect the faintest rustle or change in the jungle's rhythm, making them nearly impossible to ambush on their own territory.

The skin of Jungle Orcs varies in shades from deep emerald to dark green, providing them with a natural camouflage that is essential for survival in the jungle. This coloration allows them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings, becoming almost invisible among the leaves, moss-covered rocks, and dappled light of the forest floor. Some Jungle Orcs also bear intricate natural patterns on their skin that resemble the dappled light filtering through the canopy, further enhancing their ability to remain hidden. In addition to their coloration, they often adorn themselves with plant fibers, leaves, and other natural elements to break up their silhouette, making them even harder to spot. Their clothing is typically minimal and practical, designed to offer protection while allowing for maximum mobility. They also utilize body paint made from natural dyes, not only for camouflage but as part of spiritual rituals and rites of passage, which hold deep significance in their culture.

Jungle Orcs are more than just skilled hunters and warriors; they are deeply connected to the natural world and possess a spiritual intelligence that guides their way of life. They revere the jungle as both a provider and a guardian, seeing it as a living entity that must be respected and understood. Their culture is steeped in a rich spiritual tradition, with shamans who act as mediators between the Orcs and the jungle's myriad spirits. These shamans are highly respected, believed to possess the ability to commune with the spirits of the forest and gain insight into the will of Gruumsh. Jungle Orcs live in harmony with their environment, taking only what they need and ensuring that they maintain the delicate balance of their ecosystem. They believe that every creature, plant, and element within the jungle has a role to play in the grand tapestry of life. This deep spiritual connection shapes their society, emphasizing values such as wisdom, respect for the natural world, and the importance of living as one with the land. Agile, stealthy, and intelligent, Jungle Orcs embody the spirit of the wilds they inhabit, thriving not just through physical strength but through their deep understanding of the jungle's secrets.

This physique is not only a product of their environment but also a testament to the rigorous training they undergo to survive the unforgiving desert landscape. They are known to have remarkable stamina, capable of enduring scorching heat by day and freezing temperatures by night. This natural armor, combined with their angular features and narrow eyes, makes them well-suited for life in the desert. Their eyes are often shaded by a pronounced brow ridge, providing some protection against the blinding glare of the sun. These narrow eyes are adapted to see clearly in the bright light of day and the dim glow of dusk, allowing Desert Orcs to be active during the most extreme times when others would seek shelter. Their faces, often lined with the marks of age and experience, tell the story of a people who have learned to thrive where others would perish.

Resilience is at the core of Desert Orc culture, shaping not just their physicality but also their mindset. They are known for their stoic determination, facing the brutal challenges of their environment with an unyielding spirit. In the desert, survival requires more than just strength; it demands cunning, patience, and an intimate knowledge of the land. Desert Orcs have learned to read the shifting sands, to find water where there appears to be none, and to use the sparse vegetation and wildlife to their advantage. They are experts in desert navigation, using the stars, wind patterns, and the subtle changes in the landscape to guide their way. This ability to adapt and endure is celebrated within their society. They view hardship as a test of character, a trial that must be overcome to prove one's worthiness. Their stoicism is not born from indifference, but from a profound understanding that life in the desert is a constant struggle, and only through discipline and perseverance can they ensure the survival of their people. In battle, this translates to a fierce, unbreakable resolve; Desert Orcs are known to fight with a calm intensity, enduring pain and exhaustion far beyond the limits of others. To them, the desert is not an enemy but a teacher, one that has forged them into a people of unmatched resilience and strength.

'''Gruumsh Above All: Without Gruumsh, there is no life.'''
 +

 +
Gruumsh is the source of all strength, the guiding force that shapes the lives of the Orcs. He is the embodiment of creation and destruction, the primal force that governs the earth, mountains, and molten core of the world. Every orc's existence is a testament to Gruumsh's will, and without his blessing, they are nothing. To honor Gruumsh is to acknowledge that every victory, every breath, is a gift from the All-Goth. His teachings are the foundation upon which orcish society is built, and his wrath is to be feared as much as his favor is to be coveted. This law is a constant reminder to the Orcs that their ultimate loyalty lies with Gruumsh, above all else, and that their lives must be dedicated to fulfilling his vision.
 +

 +
'''Clan Above the Orc: Without the clan, there is no orc.'''
 +

 +
In Orcish society, the clan is the lifeblood of their existence, a collective that provides strength, protection, and identity. An orc is nothing without their clan; it is the family, the clan, the community that binds them together. Gruumsh teaches that an individual’s strength is only as meaningful as their contribution to the whole. The clan represents the unity that Gruumsh values, the force that enables Orcs to survive and thrive in the face of adversity. The success of the clan is paramount, and every orc must be willing to sacrifice personal glory for the greater good. Whether in battle, in the rituals of daily life, or in the spiritual journey of the Orcs, the clan is central. To betray the clan is to betray Gruumsh himself, for it is through the clan that the will of Gruumsh is manifested on earth.
 +

 +
'''Strength and Knowledge: Strength and knowledge are the keys to pleasing Gruumsh.'''
 +

 +
Gruumsh values strength, not just in muscle but in mind. Physical prowess and strategic cunning are seen as two sides of the same coin, each necessary to rise above challenges and enemies. Strength is the power to dominate, to protect, and to destroy when necessary. Knowledge is the wisdom to use that strength effectively, to understand the forces of nature and the world around them. Gruumsh's teachings encourage the Orcs to continuously strive for self-improvement, to grow stronger and wiser with each passing day. It is through mastering the art of war, understanding the land, and using both force and intellect that the Orcs prove themselves worthy in the eyes of Gruumsh. Whether through martial training, spiritual rituals, or the pursuit of lore, every orc is expected to cultivate these qualities to honor Gruumsh.
 +

 +
'''Betrayal is Death: Treachery is worse than weakness, and a traitor will suffer a fate worse than death.'''
 +

 +
In the eyes of Gruumsh and Orcish society, betrayal is the gravest sin. Loyalty to Gruumsh, to the clan, and to one's fellow orcs is sacred. A traitor not only endangers their clan but also defies the will of Gruumsh, inviting his wrath. Betrayal is a corruption that must be purged, for it threatens the unity and strength that are central to Orcish existence. Those who betray their clan or the laws of Gruumsh are seen as tainted, as agents of the shadow that once enslaved their people. Such individuals are hunted down and made to suffer a fate worse than death—a punishment designed to serve as a grim warning to others. This law also ties into the Orcs' history with Igneos and the Shadowclan; it is a reminder that treachery, like the shadow, must be eradicated to ensure the survival and dominance of the Orcs.
 +

 +
'''The Shadow Must Fall: The Shadowclan must never rise again. Any orc tainted by shadow will be put to the blade.'''
 +

 +
The Shadowclan represents the darkest chapter in Orcish history, a time when their kind were enslaved by Igneos and shackled in darkness. Gruumsh granted the Orcs the strength to break free from this tyranny, but not all were liberated. The Shadowclan, those still under Igneos's influence, are seen as a lingering threat to the freedom and honor of the Orcish race. This law is a solemn vow that the Orcs will never allow the shadow to take hold again. Any orc who falls into the shadow's grasp is viewed as a danger to the clan and to Gruumsh's will. Such tainted individuals are put to the blade, a merciful act to prevent the corruption from spreading and to ensure the purity and strength of the Orcish people. To the Orcs of Burz'kal and other clans loyal to Gruumsh, this law is a declaration of their eternal vigilance against the forces of darkness, a pledge to protect their kin from the chains of the past.

The Orcish Clans

Orcs are as diverse as the lands they inhabit, with each clan developing its own unique traits and characteristics shaped by their environment. Yet all orcs, regardless of their clan, share a fierce loyalty to their people and an unshakable belief in the strength of Gruumsh.

The Burz'kal Clan

The Mountain Clan

The Swamp Clan

They often use mud and plant matter to further conceal themselves, masking their scent from predators and making them nearly invisible in the dim, humid swamps they call home.

The Plains Clan

The Jungle Clan

The Desert Clan

Desert Orcs are tall and lean, their bodies built for endurance in the harsh, arid expanses they call home. They possess a wiry strength that allows them to traverse vast stretches of desert without succumbing to the elements. Their limbs are long and muscular, designed for covering great distances swiftly, while their torsos are compact and efficient at conserving energy. This physique is not only a product of their environment but also a testament to the rigorous training they undergo to survive the unforgiving desert landscape. They are known to have remarkable stamina, capable of enduring scorching heat by day and freezing temperatures by night. Every movement they make is deliberate and economical, a reflection of the need to conserve energy in a place where resources are scarce. For the Desert Orcs, every step, every action, is calculated to ensure their survival in the hostile environment they inhabit.

Their skin, ranging in hues from sandy brown to deep terracotta, serves as a natural defense against the desert sun. Tough and leathery, it offers protection against the relentless heat and abrasive sandstorms that sweep across the dunes. Over generations, their skin has adapted to the harsh climate, developing a texture that not only guards against sunburn but also helps retain moisture, a crucial adaptation in a land where water is a rare and precious commodity.

The Laws of Grummsh

Gruumsh Above All: Without Gruumsh, there is no life.

Clan Above the Orc: Without the clan, there is no orc.

Strength and Knowledge: Strength and knowledge are the keys to pleasing Gruumsh.

Betrayal is Death: Treachery is worse than weakness, and a traitor will suffer a fate worse than death.

The Shadow Must Fall: The Shadowclan must never rise again. Any orc tainted by shadow will be put to the blade.
