Government

The Elder King, or Queen is accepted through a ceremony that directly invokes the Valar. Not since the age of Chaos has the attempt at appointing a new ruler been rejected by the Valar.

There are three positions within Arandor, filled through appointment by the King or Queen.

Magistrate: The magistrate is responsible for day-to-day operations within Arandor, and primarily serves as a bridge between the people of Arandor and their monarch.

Adjudicator: The Adjudicator serves as the chief arbiter of justice within Arandor. They preside over the judicial system, hearing and deciding on legal disputes, ensuring fairness, and upholding the laws of the elven city. The Adjudicator plays a crucial role in maintaining order, resolving conflicts, and promoting justice and equality. They also command the city guard.

Herald of Arandor: The Herald of Arandor serves as the official spokesperson and representative of the Elven people. They are responsible for conveying important announcements, delivering diplomatic messages, and representing Arandor in formal gatherings and negotiations with other realms. The Herald acts as a bridge between Arandor and the outside world, ensuring effective communication and promoting the city's interests.

Orders

The Elves have a number of Orders who have a patron Valar. The primarily role of these orders is to fulfill certain tasks throughout Elven territory, or on behalf of the Elves. Typically, except in times of war, the Elves respect national boundaries the other nations recognize and will often attempt to cooperate with authority figures if their business takes them through one of the other territories.

Note: While participating in these orders is not required, this may add some additional information for you to use while building your character.

• Elves can join an order by reaching level 10, and then visiting the Temple in Arandor. Joining an order if an important decision, so consider carefully what it might mean for your personal character development.

The Order of the Celestial Sovereign (Fanyarnir)

This name encapsulates Fanyarnir's status as the supreme deity in the elven pantheon, emphasizing his celestial domain and his role as a creator and protector. Roles within the Order:

• Gatekeepers: The primary guardians of the Order, Gatekeepers are responsible for monitoring and protecting the boundaries between worlds. Gatekeepers are often stationed at key locations where the fabric of reality is most vulnerable.

• Wardens of the Veil: These members specialize in maintaining the wards and protections that keep the realms separate. They are adept in the creation and reinforcement of magical barriers, ensuring that no entity or force can breach the veil between worlds. Wardens of the Veil are also responsible for repairing any damage to the fabric of reality caused by misuse of magic or other disturbances.

• Sentinels of Verilion: The elite members of the Order, Sentinels of Verilion are those who have proven themselves in their duty and have been granted special authority to act on behalf of the Order. They are often called upon to deal with the most dangerous threats, whether it be sealing breaches in reality, confronting rogue mages, or repelling incursions from other realms.

Ceremonies and Rituals:

• The Vigil of the Eternal Watch: A solemn ceremony performed when a new member joins the Order. During this ritual, the initiate pledges their life to the eternal watch, vowing to protect the boundaries of the realms. The ceremony often takes place at a sacred site where the veil between worlds is thin, and the initiate is presented with a symbol of their duty, such as a shield or warding stone.

• The Warding Rite: A ritual performed by Wardens of the Veil to strengthen the barriers between worlds. • The Sentinel’s Shield: The emblem of the Order, representing Verilion’s protection and the steadfastness of the Order’s members. This symbol is often worn as a brooch or engraved on armor, signifying the member’s role as a guardian of the realms.

• Guarding the Boundaries: The primary duty of the Order is to guard the boundaries between the physical world and other realms. Gatekeepers and Sentinels are stationed at key locations, ensuring that no force can cross over without the Order’s knowledge and permission.

• Maintaining the Veil: The Order is responsible for maintaining the wards and protections that keep the realms separate. Wardens of the Veil work tirelessly to ensure that the fabric of reality remains intact and that no damage is allowed to spread.

Joining the Order:

• Requirements: To join the Order of the Eternal Sentinel, an elf must demonstrate a strong sense of duty and a commitment to protecting the balance of the realms. Prospective members undergo rigorous training in both combat and warding magic, as well as tests of their vigilance and endurance. Those who prove themselves capable are invited to take the Vigil and join the Order.

Oath: New members take the Vow of the Eternal Watch, pledging to protect the boundaries of the realms and to uphold the balance of the natural order. They swear to remain ever vigilant and to defend the elven people from the dangers that lie beyond the veil. The Order of the Eternal Sentinel is a solemn and respected group within Arandor, known for their unwavering commitment to protecting the fabric of reality.
