= Threat System =

The '''Threat System''' is a combat mechanic that determines how hostile creatures choose which target to attack during combat. Rather than simply attacking the nearest available target, creatures now track the actions of everyone participating in a fight and respond based on the amount of '''Threat''' they generate.

This system makes managing enemy aggression an important part of group combat, allowing durable characters and pets to hold the attention of enemies while damage dealers and healers must manage their own threat.

== Threat Generation ==

Each creature maintains its own independent '''Threat Table'''. Players and pets gain threat through actions performed during combat.

* '''Damage''' – Dealing damage generates threat based on the amount of effective damage dealt
* '''Healing''' – Healing a friendly player who is engaged with an enemy generates threat for the healer on nearby enemies involved in the fight
* '''Pets''' – Pets maintain their own threat and can independently gain and hold enemy aggression
* '''Abilities''' – Certain abilities may generate additional threat, reduce threat, or directly influence a creature's threat table

Threat is tracked separately by each creature. Having high threat against one enemy does not affect another enemy unless threat was also generated against it.

== Threat Modifiers ==

Different creatures, pets, classes, or abilities may have modifiers that increase or decrease the amount of threat they generate.

For example, a pet designed for tanking may have an increased '''Pet Threat Modifier''', causing its attacks and abilities to generate additional threat.

These modifiers allow tank-oriented characters and pets to more effectively maintain enemy attention without necessarily dealing the most damage.

== Aggro Thresholds ==

Having the highest threat does not always cause an enemy to immediately change targets.

A player or pet must exceed the threat of the creature's current target by a certain amount before pulling aggression.

* '''Melee Threshold (120%)''' – Targets fighting close to the creature require a smaller threat advantage to pull aggression
* '''Ranged Threshold (140%)''' – Targets farther away require a larger threat advantage to pull aggression

For example, with a 120% melee threshold, a nearby player must reach at least 1,200 threat to pull an enemy from someone with 1,000 threat.

This prevents enemies from rapidly switching between players when their threat values are very close.

== Threat Meter ==

Players can use the following command to toggle the '''Threat Meter''':

The Threat Meter displays the highest threat participants for the creature currently being fought, including players and pets.

The meter shows:

* Each participant's current threat
* Their threat percentage relative to the highest entry
* The creature's current target
* A warning color when someone has exceeded the current target's threat but has not yet reached the threshold required to pull aggression

The number of displayed entries can also be cycled between '''5, 8, and 12''' using the button on the Threat Meter.

The Threat Meter setting and selected display size are remembered between logins.

== Encounter Resets ==

Threat normally remains throughout an encounter. Moving away from an enemy does not provide an intentional means of reducing accumulated threat.

When an encounter is fully reset, such as when a boss is pulled beyond its allowed area, its threat table is cleared and all participants begin again with zero threat.
