Combat tips: DEFENSE

The two main defensive skills in Regisfall are Dodge and Block. They work exclusively, meaning you can't benefit from both at the same time. Usually the one you have the highest skill cap in is the one fit for your class. If your class has the same cap in both, then pick the one that best fits your playstyle, or even both.

- Dodge

You are using Dodge when you don't have a shield equipped.

A successful Dodge costs 3% of max stamina and will avoid damage entirely. After a successful dodge, there is a 2s cooldown before you can dodge again.

Dodge chance is influenced by the skill and your MAX and CURRENT stamina. So the less stamina you have, the less likely you are to Dodge.

If you get below 30% stamina, you are UNABLE to Dodge.

This implies a mobile playstyle for dodgers in combat, engaging and disengaging as the fight goes, to recover stamina.

- Block

You use Block when you have a shield equipped (some classes are an exception and can block with weapons).

A successful Block has a chance to reduce shield durability and will reduce the damage taken, potentially negating it.

Block chance is influenced by the skill and your Strength.

Since you don't need stamina for blocking, if you move around too much, you end up blocking less (and attacking less as well), making the skill less efficient. So unless you need to Heal up, the most efficient way to use Block is standing still and facing your opponent (you receive a defense chance debuff if attacked from behind).

- Exceptions

Some classes get only 60 Dodge or Block (usually spellcasters). These classes are exceptions to the described above, because they're not supposed to get hit at all. Due to their minimal defensive skills they're better off on the backline, away from the fight.

Of course, with some creativity and the right build (combination of race, class, feats, skills and items) you can most likely overcome these limitations and accomplish any desired playstyle.
