Part I: Dawn of Creation

“When the world was young, the mountains green and no stain on the moon was seen.
When no words were laid on stream or stone, Saerin walked alone.
He named the nameless hills and dells, drinking from yet untasted wells.
He carved from stone of mountains old, by his hands are the legends told.
He shaped, molded, tempered and folded creatures brave and bold.”

Saerin, The Soul Forger and Father of Creation

Saerin, the Soul Forger and Father of Creation is said in times long forgotten crafted vast worlds and it is believed that each star in the heavens is a world that he created. The worlds were without life and desolate. Desiring more than vast empty worlds and wanting to pass on his craft. He sought out a towering and scaly boar like beast within his own realm of Khazgard. The swine, known as Avi was a vile creature of nightmare covered in near impenetrable brass scales, long curving horns sprouting from its brow, a maw full of razor like tusks and fiery breath like a blazing forge. The two titans battled for what seemed like an eternity, but in the end. Saerin proved to be mightier and took the smoldering heart of the beast. He placed the Heart of Avi into a crucible and buried it in the rich earth of Khazgard. Saerin took the Sacred Crucible to his Soul Forge and by his divine hammer, the world of Nidavellir was brought into existence.

He walked alone and wondered the new world that he had made, taking in its beauty and untouched splendor. He named the nameless hills, dells and drank from yet untasted wells. He wanted to bring life into his new creation and ventured back to his realm. He pulled three tusks from the maw of Avi, carved stone from the mountain peaks that touched the heavens and precious metals from cavern’s deep. He brought forth a ring of mystic flame into his great Soul Forge. The land did tremor from the ancient embers as he pulled the chains making the bellows roar. He sang the chorus of creation, while his heart beat to match the hammer’s pound. He shaped Avi’s tusks into their bones, pounded the precious metals to make their muscles and chiseled stone to shape their skin. He shaped, molded, tempered and folded meticulously until he reached perfection on his children, bringing the first Dwarves into existence.

They wondered the new world and practiced their craft as taught by their Creator. However, the world was cold and they were blind by the eternal darkness. Saerin saw the suffering of his children and ventured back to his realm. He pulled Avi’s eyes from her skull and cast them into his Soul Forge. He brought forth a ring of mystic flame into his great Soul Forge. The land did tremor from the ancient embers as he pulled the chains making the bellows roar. He sang the chorus of creation, while his heart beat to match the hammer’s pound. He shaped, molded, tempered and folded meticulously until he reached perfection. By Avi’s eyes, he created both the sun and the moon for his new world to warm and guide his children.

Even still in the light, were they lost and wandered aimlessly. They suffered being exposed to the new elements. Saerin seeing the suffering of his children, returned back to his realm. He pulled the near impenetrable brass scales from her body and cast them into the Soul Forge. He brought forth one final ring of mystic flame into his great Soul Forge. The land did tremor from the ancient embers as he pulled the chains making the bellows roar. He sang the chorus of creation, while his heart beat to match the hammer’s pound. He shaped, molded, tempered and folded meticulously until he reached perfection. By Avi’s scales, he created mighty mountains to shelter his children. The Dwarves finally found shelter and a place that they could call home. They thrived and prospered from the riches that their beloved father had provided them. They spent rest of their days mastering their crafts and honoring Saerin with their creations. They built great stone works, murals depicting their creation and carved runes of praise into each blade or armor they forged. They would pass on Saerin’s teachings through religious texts and built wonders to last, so that every new generation would know of Saerin’s undying love.
